Atheism advances

December 30, 2007

From the Baptist Press, Penna Dexter writes about what she sees as the negatives of the growth of that nasty atheism in the US.

It’s a telling read. The bulk of the article is spent lamenting the secularization of Christmas, making a reasonably fair point about the misapplication of political correctness. Unfortunately, towards the end it veers off to outline other nasty atheist behavior and kind of jumps the rails, complaining about attempts to have references to god removed from the Pledge of Allegiance and the currency, berating Hollywood for outright promotion of atheism to kids* and a quick drive-by bitch slap to Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens on the basis of a couple of cherry picked statements.

It concludes with:

Free nations should welcome religion, specifically Christianity, because it preserves freedom. Totalitarian regimes benefit when the culture is stripped of religion, or religious celebrations. In the former Soviet Union, Communists feared Christianity and gradually secularized the Christmas holiday. They wrote Jesus out of Christmas carols, banned St. Nicholas, and banned Christmas trees. Not willing to let go, the people moved these traditions to New Years.

Christianity or totalitarian regimes? An implied false dichotomy and fear of the red peril in one paragraph. Nice.

Our nation is still overwhelmingly Christian. We pride ourselves on our tolerance of all religions — or no religion. But Christians should remain vigilant and winsomely seek to remain the primary drivers and influencers of culture in America.

Ha ha. We are tolerant of all religions (and none) but there’s more of us so everyone else can shut up and take our lead.

Well. That’ll teach me to read the Baptist Press in the first place I guess.

* Gasp! Naughty! Because Hollywood had never promoted pro religious films before *cough*.

  1. Michael Huckleberry will lead the Christian soldiers forward and defeat Earth-pagans, secular-progressives, and the soclialists like Hitlary Clintox. America is a Christian name and no two-bit blog can change that. You will bow at the feet of Christ’s North American Kingdom.

Spoken like a true jackboot johnny. Hey, an aliteration! Anyway I don’t find how Christmas can be anything but secular; anyone who knows anything about Christianity knows Jesus almost certainly not born in December. Not to mention all the pagan symbology.

Bullocks!!! America is the most bigoted place on earth when it comes to religion. ‘God only likes you if your rich’ is the common theme to America’s Christianity. Look at what the conservative Christians have done in corrupting the Republicans resulting in the heinous foreign policy of the Bush administration – all the name of God.

    Re: Johnny.
Why is “Clintox” funny? Oooh, I spelled her name wrong.

Also, I think you must immediately seek spiritual and psychological help for this apparent need to dominate, control and assimilate. Turn the other cheek, brother. Be a city on a hill, not a douchebag in a Ford.
