It’s really quite alarming sometimes just how misleadingly scientific findings can be reported. Take for example this article on a study by the Centre for Population and Urban Research at Monash University, that allegedly “challenges the notion that ethnic diversity leads to a stronger, more cohesive society”.

It looks like there might be an end in sight to the Writers Guild of America strike. Yay!

I hope the writers got what they wanted, because if we have learned nothing else from this we have learned that in the absence of intelligent (or for that matter bone stupid) writing, TV loses almost all redeeming qualities, other than the incidental provision of light. Hopefully new episodes of Battlestar and Heroes will save us the nerdier amongst us from the increasingly desperate wave of manifestly writer free reality TV.

I might even feel safe enough to turn the volume back on. Eventually.

Paul just sent me a link to the Brick Testament*, which appears to be a version of the Christian Bible comprehensively illustrated with Lego.

The Geologic Universe

One of the things I’ve been tied up with over the last month has been my novice attempts at putting together audio content to contribute to a fancast celebrating the one year anniversary of the Geologic Podcast. It’s been something of a steep learning curve, but overall quite rewarding.

The Geologic Podcast is an intelligent and humorous (though often NSFW) layered blend of music, sketch comedy, rants, atheism, skepticism, science and bald jokes. If that’s not enough to get you interested, he’s just posted a video clip for the Assumption. Take a look, it’s brilliant.

Long time no see

Heya. It’s been a while since I posted, but there really just hasn’t been much to send me into rant mode. Which I suppose is actually a good thing. If you want to get all technical about it.

If this keeps up I might have to start being optimistic or something. Madness.

I live here and I couldn’t even get within sniffing distance of tickets, so if like me you’re hungry to get your nerd on, they are posting video and slide files on the website as the presentations take place. Yum.
